Before you sign: limits and exclusions
Scams where you make the payment yourself
If a fraudster posing as your bank, the police or a courier persuades you to make a bank transfer, or to authorise a payment with your PIN or codes, the loss is not covered. The Financial Loss section only covers stolen or cloned cards, online purchases paid by credit card and identity theft, and excludes card payments authorised with your PIN or personal codes, except in case of robbery or extortion.

Online purchases: credit card only
The refund for goods never delivered applies to charges on your credit card. Purchases paid in other ways are outside this guarantee, and indirect losses are never covered.

Waiting period for contract disputes
Legal protection covers damage you suffer and criminal proceedings from the start date, but disputes over contracts (for example with an online shop) only after 3 months. Disputes over online purchases and with your internet or email provider must be worth at least €200.

Private life only
Self-employment, business activity and any activity that produces income, even occasionally, are excluded, as are tax, administrative, family and inheritance matters in legal protection.

Family members are not third parties
Liability cover does not pay for damage caused to family members and other people living with you, nor for leaks of data you keep with third parties such as a cloud service.

Recover first, then claim
The Financial Loss section pays what is left after you have followed your bank's recovery or disclaimer procedures and used the policy's legal protection. Notify the claim in writing within 3 days of finding out.

If you have recently moved to Italy
Your household is the one on the stato di famiglia
The insured people are the policyholder and the members of their household shown on the family-status certificate (certificato di stato di famiglia) issued by your municipality's registry office (anagrafe), children under 18 included. Family members are covered only if they appear on it, so register your household as resident first.

Valid in the UK too
Legal protection covers events anywhere in the world, as long as the competent court is in the EU, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, the Vatican City or San Marino. Liability cover applies to conduct and claims in the same countries.

Italian helplines, an English-speaking adviser
ARAG (legal protection) and the Blue Assistance operations centre are Italian services. You can always go through us instead: we explain the policy in English and help you report a claim.
What you need to apply
An Italian tax code (codice fiscale), your address in Italy, and two answers: whether you already have a home insurance policy (it gives the discount) and whether you have had an IT incident in the last two years, in which case the insurer assesses the request before issuing.
How it works

You sign online or at one of our offices. When you need to make a claim, you deal with us in English and we handle the paperwork with the insurer.
Frequently asked questions
What does cyber insurance cover in Italy?
CyberSafe always includes legal protection for disputes that start online. You can add a Financial Loss section (stolen or cloned cards, online purchases never delivered, identity theft, with an annual limit of €1,500 or €2,500), liability for harm you cause to others online and 24/7 IT and emergency assistance. It covers private life only, not work.
How much does cyber insurance cost for a family in Italy?
From €50.68 a year with legal protection only, for the whole household. With all four sections and the higher financial loss limit it is €139.91 a year, taxes and charges included, or €125.91 if you already have a home policy. The price does not depend on age, family size or where you live.
Am I covered if a fake bank operator tricks me into making a transfer?
No. If you make a bank transfer yourself, or authorise a payment with your PIN or codes, because a fraudster has deceived you, the loss is not covered: the policy refunds stolen or cloned cards, online purchases paid by credit card and identity theft.
My bank refunded only part of a card fraud: does the policy pay the rest?
Yes, if you have the Financial Loss section: it pays the part you could not recover after following your bank's procedures, within your annual limit, minus an excess of €100 per claim. Payments you authorised by entering your PIN are excluded, unless you were robbed or forced to make them.
Are my children covered?
Yes. Everyone on the policyholder's family-status certificate (stato di famiglia) is insured, children under 18 included, for the same premium. Liability cover is often useful for teenagers who share content online, and the assistance section includes psychological support arranged by the operations centre after cyberbullying, cyberstalking or online harassment.
Can I use it for my business or partita IVA?
No. It is a policy for private life: legal protection excludes self-employment and business activity, and liability excludes any activity that produces income, even occasionally. The Conditions describe it as a product for individuals and families, for the risks of using the web in private life.
Is the premium tax-deductible in Italy?
The premium of this policy is not eligible for any tax credit or deduction. Italian income tax relief on insurance premiums is limited to specific risks, such as death, permanent disability and some home disasters, and cyber cover is not one of them. Check your own case with a tax professional (commercialista).
