What SìViaggiare Reale covers
Urgent medical expenses
Doctors, medicines and hospital treatment after an injury or a sudden illness, when care cannot wait until you are home: up to €30,000 (Silver) or €250,000 (Gold) per person, with no deductible. Within that limit, urgent dental care up to €250 and orthopaedic devices up to €550.

Direct payment of the hospital
Call the operations centre before you pay: where possible it takes charge of the costs and pays the hospital directly. Abroad this applies to admissions with at least one night. Otherwise you pay and claim back, settled within 30 days of the documents. If a hospital estimates at least €10,000, you can get an advance of up to 60% of the sum insured, maximum €50,000.

Medical transport and family support
If the operations centre's doctors agree with the doctors on the spot, you are transferred to a hospital near your home in Italy, with medical staff on board if needed. If you stay in hospital longer than 5 days, an adult relative gets a return ticket and a hotel up to €520.

What it costs

2 days in Italy, Silver. About €7.37 per person.
A week in Europe or the UK
€47.31 for 2
7 days in Europe, UK included, Silver. About €23.66 per person.
Two weeks outside Europe
€122.44 for 2
17 days worldwide, Gold. About €61.22 per person.
Tariff premiums for the whole trip, taxes included, with medical expenses, assistance and baggage, including the 15% discount for taking both sections. Cancellation and accident cover are extra. Calculated by the same engine as the online quote.
Before you sign: limits and exclusions
Only for people resident in Italy
The Conditions define your residence as your habitual home in Italy, and a trip as travel outside your Italian municipality (comune) of residence. If you still live in the UK, this policy is not for you.

Known and pre-existing conditions
Illnesses and injuries already present and known when you leave, and their relapses, are excluded, as are medical costs linked to pre-existing conditions. Pregnancy complications beyond week 26, pregnancy illnesses and childbirth are not covered.

Only urgent care during the trip
Follow-up visits after you are home, physiotherapy, glasses and contact lenses, cosmetic and spa treatment, and care that could wait until your return are excluded.

Call the operations centre first
Assistance services must be arranged by the operations centre: the insurer does not pay for services it did not arrange. Direct payment of medical costs also needs its prior authorisation.

Risky sports
Injuries from air sports, professional sport, motor races and exceptional expeditions (for example polar or Himalayan expeditions, ocean regattas, extreme skiing) are excluded.

When cancellation cover works
The policy must start within 5 days of booking the trip, and cancellation cannot be added in the 10 days before departure. For illness without a hospital stay you pay 20% of the penalty. Missing or invalid passports and visas are excluded.

Length of the trip
A policy covers from 2 to 123 days and up to 9 travellers. For travel policies bought at a distance and lasting less than one month, Italian law does not give the 14-day right of withdrawal.

If you have recently moved to Italy
Trips back to the UK count as Europe
The United Kingdom, Ireland and Northern Ireland are in the Europe zone of the policy, so a visit home does not need worldwide cover. Choose worldwide only for trips outside Europe.

Medical transport goes to Italy
If you need to be moved, the transfer is to a hospital near your residence in Italy, not to the UK. An air ambulance is used only within Europe and the Mediterranean; elsewhere a scheduled flight, train or ambulance.

Your residence decides, not your passport
The Conditions refer to your residence in Italy and never to your nationality. You need an Italian tax code (codice fiscale) and your address in Italy. Claims are paid in Italy, in euro, converting foreign currency at the European Central Bank rate.

Public health services abroad
The operations centre can tell you about local health facilities and, in EU countries only, about the documents you need to use public ones. If a public health service or another insurer has paid part of the bill, copies with their statement replace the originals.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy travel insurance in Italy as a British citizen?
Yes, if you live in Italy. SìViaggiare Reale is based on your residence, which the Conditions define as your habitual home in Italy, and says nothing about nationality. You need an Italian tax code (codice fiscale) and your Italian address. If you have not moved yet, it is not the right policy.
Does it cover a trip from Italy to the UK?
Yes. The UK is part of the policy's Europe zone. Urgent medical costs are covered up to €30,000 with Silver or €250,000 with Gold, with no deductible. For a hospital stay with at least one night the operations centre can pay the hospital directly; otherwise you pay and claim back.
Is there a deductible on medical expenses?
No: the Conditions apply no deductible (franchigia) to the medical expenses cover. Medical costs are paid within the limit of the level you choose. A share applies elsewhere: for example 20% of the penalty on trip cancellation for illness without a hospital stay.
Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?
No. Illnesses and injuries already present and known when you leave, their relapses, and costs linked to pre-existing conditions are excluded. The policy pays for sudden illnesses and accidents that happen during the trip and need care that cannot wait until you are home.
Is there an annual multi-trip policy?
SìViaggiare Reale is priced on the dates of the trip, from 2 to 123 days, for up to 9 travellers on one policy. If you travel often, for example back to the UK several times a year, tell us how you travel and we will tell you honestly which solution fits.
When should I buy cancellation cover?
Straight after booking: the policy must start within 5 days of booking, and cancellation cannot be added in the 10 days before departure. You choose the limit, from €500 to €5,000 per person, and should tell the tour operator the same day the event happens.
Are the policy documents in English?
The legally binding documents are in Italian. Your adviser goes through them with you in English before you leave, and helps you in English with any claim. Medical records written in English, French, German or Spanish can be translated by the operations centre.
