What RealmenteInSalute DayByDay covers

  • Specialist visits and diagnostics

In a network (convenzionata) facility the insurer pays 90% directly to the clinic: MRI, CT, ultrasound, specialist visits. Outside the network you pay and claim back 70%, within the per-item limits of the Reimbursement Guide. Annual limit €3,000 per person. Available only together with hospital cash.

  • Public health service tickets

If you have the visit or test in a facility accredited with the Italian National Health Service, the policy refunds the whole ticket (the patient's share).

  • Hospital cash

€50 (Standard) or €100 (Premium) for each night in hospital after an accident or illness, up to 180 nights a year, doubled from the first day for stays of 15 consecutive nights or more. It is a fixed sum: no receipts needed.

  • Specialist video consultations

With the assistance package: up to 30 video consultations a year per policy across 15 specialities, with no waiting period, also for conditions you already have. A first opinion, not a diagnosis or prescription.

If you have recently moved to Italy

  • It complements the Italian health service

Once you are resident you can register with the National Health Service (SSN). DayByDay does not replace it: it shortens the wait for visits and tests and pays for the private route.

  • Not a visa or residence-permit policy

Consulates and police headquarters (Questura) set their own requirements for the health insurance attached to a visa or residence permit. This policy is not designed for that purpose: ask us before relying on it.

  • What you need to apply

An Italian tax code (codice fiscale), an address in Italy, an ID document and the health questionnaire. We help you fill it in, in English.

How it works

  1. Get your quote online, in English

The price is calculated on the insurer's tariff from the details you enter. The quote is free and does not commit you to buy.

  2. Go through it with an English-speaking adviser

Before you sign we send you the pre-contract documents (DIP and additional DIP) and the Insurance Conditions. They are in Italian, the version that is legally binding: we walk you through them in English, at no extra cost.

  3. Sign and stay covered

You sign online or at one of our offices. When you need to make a claim, you deal with us in English and we handle the paperwork with the insurer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need private health insurance if I live in Italy?

Residents can register with the Italian National Health Service, which covers essential care. Many people add a private policy to avoid long waiting lists for specialist visits and tests and to have a cash amount if they are admitted to hospital.

How does direct payment work?

If you use a network (convenzionata) facility the insurer pays 90% directly to the clinic and you only pay the rest. Outside the network you pay and claim 70% back, within the limits of the Reimbursement Guide.

Can I use this policy for my visa or residence permit?

It is not designed for that. Visa and residence-permit health insurance requirements are set by the consulate or the Questura and change from case to case. Contact us and we will tell you honestly whether a policy fits before you buy.

Are my existing conditions covered?

No: illnesses diagnosed before you sign are excluded from reimbursement and hospital cash. The specialist video consultations can be used for them.

Are the policy documents in English?

The legally binding documents are in Italian. Your adviser goes through them with you in English before you sign and helps you in English when you make a claim.

Is the premium tax-deductible in Italy?

The premium of a medical-expenses policy is not deductible, so the medical expenses themselves stay deductible at 19% above the €129.11 threshold, including the part the policy refunds. Check your own case with a tax professional.
